Marrakech to Zagora 2 days desert Tour

The 2 days 1 night tour to Zagora desert is a condensed experience that lets the traveller enjoy a big part of Morocco’s landscapes, geography and lifestyles. The tour takes you from the metropolitan city of Marrakech to the perched berber villages on the foothills of the mountains along the Atlas chain where the mountains change their color and form frequently making each and every corner of the road new to the eye. The road continues through beautiful small oases before arriving to the immense palm grove of the Draa valley. Once in zagora, the tour includes a camel ride for about 40 minutes during a majestic sunset to reach the nomad tents in the bivouac behind the hills. On the way back during the second day of Zagora tour, you have the opportunity to visit many attractions on the road, including the beautiful kasbahs in Ouarzazate and Ait Benhaddou and some cinematographic locations before heading back to Marrakech.

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Agdez – Zagora

Our Zagora desert tour starts at 8:00 AM, our driver will come to pick you up from your Riad or hotel in Marrakech in a comfortable air-conditionned 4x4 car or minivan. We leave the ochre city behind and drive south-east crossing many small and dispersed villages on our way. After about a 100 kilometers, we start to go up as we reach the chain of the Atlas mountains and the highest pass in the chain Tizi N-Tichka (2160m), the pass is usually coverd in snow during winter time.We will stop in one of the teraces in Tichka to stretch our legs, maybe grab a cup of coffee to fully wake up. After the pass, we cross several berber villages again, perched in the mountains and hills. The scenery on the road changes frequently leaving no room for boredom. Arriving to Ouarzazate (~90 kilometers from Tichka pass), we will stop to visit the beautiful Kasbah of Taourirt (home to former Caid Pacha Glaoui) and the museum of Cinema as Ouarzazate is a noted film-making location, it has two huge film studios inviting some of the big international experts of the industry of cinema to work there. After Visiting the attractions of Ouarzazate, we will drive again through the beautiful valleys for another 90 kilometers to reach Agdez and appreciate the view of its palmeraie from a high point. Then just after a couple of turns, our lunch place awaits, a nice Kasbah in Tamnougalt, to get there, we take a little detour from the main the road and cross a river then drive inside the fields. The Kasbah has a nice terrace looking at the palm grove and sunny enough to warm you up on cold days. After lunch, we continue our desert trip to the city of Zagora, where the camels await you at the end of the paved road, to take you to the bivouac in the dunes just in time to witness the majestic sunset and take memorable photos. Once you arrive at the bivouac of Zagora desert, you are welcomed by the staff, given your tents and gather for a mint tea session to get to know eachother and break the ice with other comers. The night in the desert camp has a clear sky and you can see countless stars and easyli distinguish the constellations. After a nice home made dinner, we gather around fire to enjoy a session of singing, dancing and laughing around fire, share beautiful moments and forget the world.

Day 2 : Zagora – Draa valley – Agdez – Ouarzazate – Tizi-N-Ticha - Marrakech

The second day of Zagora desert trip starts with an early breakfast, so you don't miss the awesome sunset Zagora has to offer, another opportunity to take beautiful pictures. Then Ride the camels back to meet the car at the end of the paved road. Leave Zagora behind and head straight back to the fortified village of Ait benhaddou, where you will have lunch, before exploring the site, declared by the UNESCO as a world heritage site. The village is known as a backdrop for many cinematographic works, the most famous ones are 'The gladiator', 'Lawrence of Arabia' and even some scenes of the classi 'Game of thrones' were shot in this village. Seven families still live in the old village of Ait benhaddou, the rest have moved to the other side of the valley, a more modern side. Ksar Ait benhaddou was a pausing station for the caravanes traveling along the Ounila valley, the merchants either exchange goods here and go back to the desert, or pause to rest then continue to Marrakech, they used to trade salt, silver and slaves.

Fantastic trip to Zagora and Imlil

My girlfriend and I went on two trips with this company, to Imlil and to Zagora. Before we went on the trips the speed of communication from this company was highly commendable and the trips themselves were even better than we expected. Both of our guides were incredibly friendly and helpful and both trips were fantastic value for money. We were able to see so much of the country and to experience some breathtaking landscapes. I highly recommend these trips and this company to anyone.

Amazing 2 day trip to Zagora from Marrakech

It was an amazing and unforgettable trip to the beginning of the desert in Zagora. Although it was a very long drive on both days, it has never been annoying to sit in the car as our driver Ismail made various stops and showed us incredible places!! The restaurants for the lunch breaks have been chosen very well and the food was amazing! Our local guide in Ait Ben Haddou has a very a good knowledge about the city and showed us also very interesting things in the new city! Besides, the chosed desert camp was amazing. We had lovely evening with traditional food, a small fire and interesting stories about nomads life! The camel ride has been a lot of fun! I could just recommend this agency and especially Ismail as a guide! I'll definitely come back to Morocco and will do another tour with this agency!

Unique experience

My partner and I signed up for the 2D1N Zagora stay as we did not have time to go for the longer / farther trips. We almost didn't get to go, as there were floods the day before we flew to Morocco, which rendered the roads impassable. We were sorely disappointed, and asked to be kept updated of the weather conditions. Lahcen was prompt in his email responses, and we were very glad that the roads opened up the night before we were to leave. Our guide / driver Adil arrived early at our riad, and we set off at a good pace. He was fluent in a number of languages, including English and told us geological and historical information during the trip. We stopped at places of interest such as Aït Ben Haddou. Stops and meals were well timed. The 1.5 hour camel ride took place before the sunset and the view was atop a sand dune. Bring a scarf and shades to protect your face from the flying sand. The camp was interesting, with private tents which stayed at a comfortable temperature despite strong winds outside. Bring water as it is not provided at the camp. The bed I was on was sandy, and pillow cases slightly stained. I guess it was acceptable as it was in the middle of the desert. The food and hospitality by the Berber hosts were good, considering that it was in the middle of the desert. Toilet facilities were clean and decent. Also protected from the cold. There was cold / warm running water from the showers and sinks. Remember to bring towels as well for the shower! We woke in the middle of the night and saw beautiful stars, including the Milky Way. The next morning, we were also given the option of waking for the sunrise before the camel ride again back to our vehicle. All in, a very enjoyable experience, including the camel rides.

Overnight Marrakesh Zagora

The Overnight in the desert was an unforgettable experience for us. We travelled with Marrakech Day Trips and our guide Ibrahim was extremely polite, professional punctual but enough friendly to make the most of this trip. He was very patient answering all the questions and giving us enough time to stretch our legs every time that we needed. He was doing the extra mile telling us about the culture of the country. He never pushed any shopping situation and gave us always the best advices to enjoy every moment of the excursion. The overnight was with Caravan du Sud and the Berber guides made the party in the camp and the camel ride a very comfortable moment, these gentlemen sorted all our needs. The food is very cheap and tasty, the staff of restaurants was always pleased to serve us. In our way back we could visit Ait Ben Haddou, Heritage of Unesco and the guide contracted from this company gave us a great experience. I would like to clarify that all of them were speaking English perfectly as well as French and Arabic, even some of them could express themselves in Spanish. The company is very keen with the quality and actually is offering a superb service with honestly and lovely temper. Of course we will repeat ASAP but choosing a longer trip.
